Contest opens 4-day run on Friday
The 26th
Im Bang Ul Gugak Contest opened its 4-day run on Friday at the Asia
Cultural Center situated in downtown Gwangju.
The contest which
uncovers gugak talents and commemorates Gwangju-born pansori singer Im Bang ul
meets its 26th turn this year.
The contest
invites pansori singers, dancers and Korean traditional instrument players in
student and adult sections.
The event will
begin with an opening ceremony on Friday and will continue with
competitions for students on Saturday, preliminary rounds of adults on Sunday
and finals for adults on Monday.
The winner
of the adults’ pansori event will be given 40 million won prize money and
a pure gold trophy worth 10 million won.
The adult section
finals will be broadcast live on national television from 12:30pm on the day.
