Jeungdo Island to Abolish Entrance Fee
Entrance fees charged for visitors to Jeungdo Island, located in Shinan-gun district, will be abolished from January next year.
According to Shinan-gun district, the district pre-announced the passing of legislation to abolish entrance fees to a famous tourist attraction in Shinan, Jeungdo Island.
The regional council has approved the proposal for the removal of entrance fees and, starting next year in January, all entrance fees will be removed.
Shinan gun district has been receiving entrance fees since 2011 to better preserve the natural surroundings in Jeongdo Island and revenues from entrance fees marked 540 million won.
Authorities in Shinan explained the background of the abolishment of entrance fees as being due to the fact that the previously highly concentrated visitors to the island on weekend have gradually dispersed through weekdays, further reducing traffic congestion and illegal trash dumping.
