New Jeollanamdo Governor Lee Nak-yeon to Establish Memorial Park in Jindo Paengmok Port

Newly elected Jeollanamdo governor, Lee Nak-yeonk, has announced that Jeollanamdo will work to construct a memorial park at Paengmok Harbor to commemorate the tragic ferry accident that occurred near Jindo Island on April 16th.

Governor Lee held a press conference yesterday at Jeollanamdo provincial hall and explained that the memorial tower will be established to prevent similar accidents from occurring and as a reminder of the importance of public safety and security.

Lee added that he had reached an agreement with the head of Jindo-gun district, Lee Dong-jin, in regard to the joint memorial tower, which will showcase parts of the salvaged Sewol ferry and contain memorial tablets of the victims of the accident.

Governor Lee also emphasized cooperation between Jeollanamdo province and the city of Gwangju for joint development and mutual growth.
