The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced today that the 90th Student
Independence Movement Commemoration, will be held on November 3rd.
The commemoration was hosted by the Gwangju Office of Education in the
past. However, starting from 2018, it was held by the Korean government as they
admitted the movement as one of ‘The 3
Independence Movements’ including the March 1st Movement,
and June 10th Manse (만세) Movement.
The event, is expected to draw some 3,000 people including students,
citizens and bereaved families. Among them, some 300 representative students of
cities and provinces and about 20 foreign students will join as well.
The November movement occurred in 1929 when some 54,000 students from
about 300 schools nationwide participated in a demonstration against the
Japanese government.
