Gwangju and Jeollanamdo Have the Largest Plantation Fields in Korea
Gwangju and Jeollanamdo reportedly have the largest plantations of barley, wheat, potatoes and pears in the nation.
According to the ‘Plantation Area Index in 2014 for Agricultural Goods’ released by the Honam Statistics Office, Gwangju and Jeollanamdo feature the biggest plantation areas for barley, wheat, potatoes and pears.
Production of barely in Jeollanamdo accounts for some 40 percent of the nationwide production at 15,000 hectares among the entire 37,000 hectares while wheat production stands at 50 percent.
Jeollanamdo produces some 14 percent of the nation’s potatoes in its plantation fields that stretch out about 15,000 hectares and 26 percent of its pears at 13,000 hectares.
