4th Day Strike Fails to Find Common Ground Between Bus Drivers and Management
Unionized intra-city bus drivers in Gwangju continued their walkout yesterday for the fourth straight day and will continue their strike today as management and the drivers failed to reach an agreement.
Labor members continue to demand a wage increase of 5.3 percent at 156,000 won whereas the management maintains its positions of a wage increase of 3 percent or 95,000.
The city of Gwangju, which has been taking part in the mediation process since Tuesday, offered a wage increase rate of 3.6 percent worth 115,000 won.
A total of 785 buses among the entire 930 buses in the fleet are in operation, indicating an 84 percent operation rate of the regular schedule.
