Literature Festival participating writers release a joint statement "May
18th togetherness values to be remembered"
The participating writers at the 2020 Asian Literature
Festival released a joint statement on Nov. 1st that "With the hearts of
solidarity from May 18th in 1980, we will overcome the current COVID 19
situation with many Asian people."
There were some 30 writers from 11 countries that
released a joint statement at the '3rd Asian Literature Festival's' closing ceremony
on Nov. 1st.
This was held at the Gwangju Donggu(동구) Asia Culture Center International Meeting Hall.
The
writers said that "the Asian Literature Festival was held on the 40th
anniversary of the May 18th Democratization Movement. May 18th's values exceed
Korea's contemporary history in the sense of the democratization movement.
However, it provides a valuable history for many
countries' people who are still struggling to fight against national violence
and suppression."
