14 Infections Reported in Gwangju yesterday showing various
infection routes
There
were 14 patients with Covid 19 found in Gwangju City yesterday. These include
'Nth degree' transmission cases related to a middle school and to Chonnam(전남) University
Hospital. Our Jongmin Kim reports.
Korea saw an upward trend in daily Covid-19 cases again. It marked the
first time that the country's daily virus cases exceeded 500 since March 6,
when the figure reached 518 due to a massive outbreak in the city of Daegu.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City, the number of confirmed cases in
the region has increased to 646. 14 people were confirmed on the 25th alone.
Among the 14 confirmed cases, 4 were related to CNU Hospital, three infection
cases of middle school students and their family members in Seogu were
reported, three with contact from other regions, and 3 related to a pub in
Jinwol-dong. Among them, there were a nurse at CNU Hospital and four inmates,
and there are also confirmed cases where the infection route is still under
investigation. Also, regarding the student infections, the disinfection
authorities installed a screening clinic within the school. Afterward, some 400
students and faculty staff will undergo diagnostic tests.
However, the Gwangju Office of Education revealed on Nov. 25th that online
classes will be operated for all middle and high school students within the
city for Dec. 4th.
This is the day after the College Scholastic Ability Test, the CSAT or
College Entrance Exam. As there will be a huge number of students writing the
CSAT with many others visiting the exam sites, the preventative measures are
necessary.
Also, 31% of middle school teachers and 58% of high school teachers will
be participating as exam supervisors. Therefore, the possibilities for cluster
infections are stronger. Therefore, on Dec. 4th, all faculty staff except
necessary staff will be working from home.
