Gwangju District Court bans Ji Man-won’s book publication
The Gwangju District Court has decided to ban the publication and distribution of a new book by Ji Man-won, who caused controversy over the distortion of the May 18 pro-democracy movement.
The book, published by Ji in June last year, contains claims that North Korea's involvement in the Gwangju Democratic Movement is a clear fact. It is currently being distributed on-line and in second-hand bookstores.
The court judged that the book demeans all activists of the May 18 movement and related organizations and hinders social values and evaluation.
If the book is published, printed, reproduced, sold, distributed, or advertised, violators will have to pay 2 million won each to the 9 members of the May 18 organization who filed for the injunction.
