Unionized Construction Workers Warn General Strike for July 22nd
Unionized laborers in Gwangju and Jeollanamdo and its Korean Federation of Construction Unions have announced a general walkout for July 22nd.
The Korean Federation of Construction Unions Gwangju and Jeonam branch hosted an establishment ceremony of the striking group yesterday in front of Gwangju city hall and announced its plan to carry out a strike across Jeollanamdo.
The unionized construction workers reportedly requested enactment of the law regarding replacement of old construction equipment in the industrial complexes as well as demanding heavier responsibility on the part of management for an industrial accident earlier this year on May 26th.
The construction workers insisted that the national government is indifferent regarding the matter and shows no interest in improving working conditions and safety concerns in the industrial complex.
Unionized construction workers explained they will notify construction workers across the province until July 11th and then determine what major demands to present to the national government.
