Updated Version of May 18th Records Book to be Published
An enlarged edition of a book that is a collection of historical records regarding the May 18th Democratization Movement, 'Beyond Death, Beyond the Darkness of the Age' will be reportedly published next May.
The Publishing Committee of the book, 'Beyond Death, Beyond the Darkness of the Age' held a press conference at Gwangju City Council yesterday and explained some of the background for its plan to publish an extended version of the book as a result of defamatory comments and distorted historical views shared by the conservative sector.
The book, 'Beyond Death, Beyond the Darkness of the Age' was released in 1985 after a group of democratic activists in Gwangju gathered historical records regarding the May 18th Democratic Uprising such as court rulings, medical records of the victims, pictures, and interviews with the democratic activists and bereaved families of the victims.
In 1999, an English edition of the book was published to promote the truth behind May 18th to the rest of the world and it has been used as a textbook for university students majoring in East Asian History in the United States.
