Whether North Korean Cheering Squad to Take Part in the Gwangju Universiade Garners Attraction
With 30 days remaining until the official kick off of the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, the question of whether a North Korean cheering squad will participate in the event is gaining attention from domestic and international sports authorities and athletes.
North Korea will send 108 athletes in 8 sport categories to the Universiade and previously sent a delegation of officials to the Head of Delegation meeting, which was held in April in Gwangju.
Organizers for the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade said North Korea has not officially confirmed the participation of a North Korean cheering squad, despite the fact that the country sent cheering squads to the 2002 Busan Asian Games, 2003 Daegu Summer Universiade and 2005 Incheon Asian Athletic Competition.
Gwangju organizers for the Universiade will accommodate North Korean athletes in a Joseon University dormitory.
