Organizers for the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade confirmed today that a total of 13,000 athletes will participate in the Universiade.
The 13,000 university athletes will compete in 21 sport games for a total of 272 gold medals. South Korea aims to be ranked in the top 3 in medals.
South Korean star athletes, such as Sohn Yeon-jae in rhythmic gymnastics, Gwangju-born Yang Hak-seon in apparatus gymnastics, Badminton's Yi Yong-dae as well as Ki Bo-bae in Archery will compete in the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade.
Some 48 percent of Olympic medallists had previously won medals in the Universiade and attention is focused on the performances of the participating athletes in the Gwangju Summer Universiade as this may prove a prediction of medal awards in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
