Damages in Jindo Island to Reach 89.8 Billion Won
More than 90 days have passed since the Sewol Ferry accident in Jindo Island and damages in the region continue to grow as sales of fisheries goods produced in the island as well as the number of tourists to the area both continue to decrease.
According to the Jeollanamdo and Jindo-gun District Pan-Regional Disaster Control Committee, the number of tourists to Jindo from April to June saw a sharp decrease to 23,000 this year from last year’s 112,000.
Meanwhile, sales revenues from fisheries goods dropped to 15.6 billion won from 22.5 billion won while tourism income fell by 80 percent year-on-year to 2.9 billion won this year from last year’s 23.2 billion won.
In addition, public officials allocated to the headquarters in Jindo General Gymnasium and Paengmok Port in Jindo are reportedly suffering from tight work schedules and excessive amounts of work.
