Gwangju Songwon High School and its Status as
Autonomous Private School May be Called Off
The Educational Office in Gwangju
approved the extended operation of Songwon High School as an autonomous private
school under specific conditions.
The Office of Education in Gwangju
requested the superintendent Jang Hui-gook yesterday to approve the bill that
allows the extended operation of Songwon High School as an autonomous private
school under the condition that the school abolish limits on school grades.
Songwon High School previously scored ‘average points’at the united Municipal and Provincial Evaluation for achievement of the
operation of the school but the inspection committee at Gwangju Office of
Education pointed out that the evaluation lacks sufficient information on
policy analysis and the management index of the school.
The committee proposed to scrap the
limits on grades of prospective students to the school that is currently set at
the top 30 percent but parents and Songwon High School are predicted to oppose
the committee’s plan since scrapping the
limits could lead to the cancellation of Songwon School as an autonomous
private school.
