Composed of 58 regional civil groups in Jindo, the Jindo Residents Disaster Control Committee met with the Pan-governmental Disaster Control Headquarter yesterday to ask national support for reviving the regional economy that has been suffering in the aftermath of the ferry sinking accident.
Jindo Residents’ Disaster Control Committee submitted a resolution that states four official requests such as compensation for damages to Jindo Island and its fishermen and residents and protection for fisheries goods produced in Jindo.
Committee representatives complained that they are suffering hardships due to the direct and indirect damage to fishermen and tourism associates in Jindo Island, which is estimated to be 9 billion won.
In a regular meeting held yesterday, the Jeollanamdo Provincial Council and its council members also urged the national government to prepare realistic measures for compensation and to revive the shrinking regional economy.
