every Saturday.
The City of
Gwangju announced that the 1st Gwangju Fringe Festival of the year will begin
on April 22nd, tomorrow.
The Gwangju Fringe
Festival was held every other week for 8 months last year; however, starting
this Saturday, the festival will be held every Saturday until December 16th.
This year's
festival will be held under the theme of 황홀한 변신(hwangholan byeonshin), or Fascinating Transformation
in English, aiming to host 1.5 million visitors by the end of the year.
The festival,
extending from the May 18 Democracy Plaza to Geumnamro, installed a tent
theater for artists and provides various experience programs including art
exhibitions, book forums, humanitarian lectures, street sports games and Namdo
cultural programs.
Geumnamro will be
a pedestrian-only street for the opening day and every 4th Saturday of the
month with 8 different performance stages in operation.
Meanwhile, the Asia Culture Center will hold the ACC Gwangju Fringe International from June 2nd to the 4th and invite famous street performers from all over the world to participate, adding even more excitement to the already spectacular festival.
