Traffic Jam Predicted for Chuseok Holiday


Nationwide highways are expected to be the most crowded on the morning of September 6th as most people will leave for their family homes at that time and once gain on September 8th, Chuseok day, with some 5 million cars predicted to hit the road to return home.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, some 4.05 million cars are predicted per day during the holiday, which is a 1 percent increase from last year.

The total estimated time between Seoul and Gwangju is set at 8 hours with Busan and Seoul at 7 hours and 40 minutes and Seoul and Mokpo at 9 hours and 30 minutes.

On Chuseok day, the total number of people traveling across the nation is estimated to be 7.4 million.

For traffic returning from visits to hometowns, it will take about 6 hours from Gwangju to Seoul and 6 hours and 50 minutes for those traveling from Mokpo to Seoul.

Gyeongbu Highway is expected to be the busiest highway as some 34 percent of the nationwide travelers plan to take Gyeongbu Expressway route over the holiday.
