Smooth Traffic for the Final Day of 5-Day Chuseok Holiday
Highways were jammed with miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic throughout the 5 day Chuseok holiday with traffic reaching its peak on Chuseok day on September 8th but, as home-goers wrap up their visits to the family homes, local highways are seeing smooth traffic flow at this hour.
According to the Gwangju and Jeonam branch of the Korea Expressway Corporation, total estimated time traveling between Gwangju and Seoul has returned to its usual 3 hourse and 20 minutes with the Mokpo and Seoul trip down to 4 hours.
Most parts of the Honam Expressway are seeing smooth traffic flows with no chronic congestion observed at major entrances and gates.
Korea Expressway Corporation officials explained that due to the extended Chuseok holiday following the adoption of a substitute holiday that adds an additional weekday to the holiday period when the holiday falls on a weekend, nationwide traffic avoided serious congestion for the final two days.
